There are a number of airports in Scotland:
Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh are the main ones although a number of other towns
have their own local airport. The nearest airport to broughty ferry is Dundee Airport,
although any of the above airports would be your arrival point if visiting from outside
Scotland.
Hiring a car would be your
best bet as it gives you the freedom to visit to wherever you please, whenever you want !
However, there are good railway system here in Scotland which will take you to most
corner's of the country. There is even an old steam train that travels throughout Scotland
which is a luxurious and passes all the beautiful scenery here whilst you are having a
five star cup of tea ! The roads in Scotland are good, although the more rural
areas will only have single carraigeways but they do pass some of the most dramatic
scenery you can imagine.
Scotland can fit your price range to match what you are looking for . Depending on the
type of accomodation you require, there are some excellent Bed & Breakfast from around
£20 a night. As you will be welcomed by and staying in a real Scottish home, this may
give you a feel for Scottish culture. Bed and Breakfasts are very popular throughout
Britain and are very comfortable (they should not be confused with Youth Hostels). At the
other end of the market, Scotland has its share of excellent five star hotels where you
get a feel of real luxury. In the middle range you can stay at a lovely hotel or even a
scottish castle for mansion for a fairly reasonable amount. You can find some B&B's
at:

Althought there are plenty of other web sites whcih give details of B&B's and hotels.
The price of eating depends on where you go. I visited new York a couple of years ago and
found that it was a lot more expensive than Scotland (although perhaps I visited
'tourist's New York' rather than the
real thing !)
For looking up your family tree, there are a number of places you can visit.Arbroath and
Edinburgh are two places I am aware of which have resources for tracing family history. I
will try and find out more specific information on this matter regarding where in
Edinburgh or Arbroath (or
elsewhere).
Between April and September are the best Months to visit Scotland. The summer months(
June/July/August) being the best time. The Isle of Skye is one of my favourite places
(other than Broughty Ferry) which should certainly be on your list. There's lots to do
there. There's so many other
lovely places that it would be unfair for me to list them in case I missed any out.
